Mysterious Minion Take Two
As much as I enjoyed creating the original Mysterious Minion design, I decided I could do better. Have a look at a truly shady character. This revision was originally intended to take a three color piece of art and turn it into a two color piece, which is more suitable for a simple t-shirt design. Once I started, I found more to like about this revision than it's simpler color scheme. Dropping grays and depending on blacks to carry the mood produced a sharper, more menacing image. Or, in less artsy jargon, he looks cooler in this version.

Yep, definitly a more fierce personality in black and white. One of my favorite words of all time comes from the art world; chiaroscuro. The juxtapositon of light and dark has always been interesting to me, especially when boiled down to the simple, yet complex, black and white.
The gray tones were nice but he looked tooo accessible that way. Against the black background, the outline in white is quite eerie! Me likey very much!
Going with what DS said, this very Film Noir. I think it will make a much bolder stement on a t-shirt be it black or white. I can just picture the mysterious one stepping out of the black, into the street light to do something and then fading back into the inky blackness outside of the light's influence...
It was a dark and storm night! Mwuhaa-haa-haa-haaa!
Ds, Pixie, thank you! It's great to hear that your guys like this style too. You've inspired me to try more pieces in a similar style. Look to some of the new DS cards, where I like to experiment with different art styles, for more like this piece.
